Just In Time for April

Today is April first and we have snow. I guess I should stop bitching because it is Pittsburgh and locals all know it can snow all the way until Memorial Day. But, it still feels good to complain about having to leave my turtle necks hanging in the closet.

Yesterday a beautiful box of tea was delivered to my door. In it were two new teas that I’m excited to roll out just in time for April!

First, is an Organic Ancient Shu Pu-erh. This tea has been picked from tea bushes in a region that is one of the oldest tea regions in the world. The tea culture in this region, Yunnan China, is deeply rooted in the villagers. Shu designates that the tea has been aged. This Pu-erh tea in particular is very earthy and has an aged scotch appeal. It is not for the faint hearted, but I’ve learned, once you drink it a few times, this tea is quite addicting.

Pu-erh has many health benefits that I will get into in another post but it’s most notable is it’s ability to help with weight loss. It has also been called the elixir of life. Many villagers swear it is the fountain of youth. If that is the case, I’ll bathe in it!

Second, is Sweet Matcha. Matcha is a powdered tea that is basically Green Sencha tea leaves that have been ground into a powder. What makes it sweet is that this particular Matcha has been milled (ground) with cane sugar. Just in time for summer, this tea makes a great iced latte.

It has been noted that by drinking Matcha, you actually receive more vitamins because you are consuming the whole leaf. Besides, it is delicious!

This weekend I have the Pu-erh bagged but haven’t had a chance to bag the Matcha. I will have that for next week.
