Herbal Tea Mission
I’m on a mission. I have been contacted by a local organization, to be announced at a later date, who have asked me to blend them a tea. But here’s the stipulation…. the herbs used in it must be local. I love the concept, but the reality may be different.
Local Herbal Tea
First issue is finding good tasting herbs that grow here. Ginger, Cardamom, Cinnamon, etc…. all out. They don’t grow in W.PA. Neither does the traditional Camellia Sinensis which is the bush from which all tea comes. Sure there are a lot of local plants that grow here and can be consumed as tea, however, many of them taste medicinal. I want this tea to be delicious all the time, not just if you are having an ailment.
Second issue is once I find the herbs I want to use, I need someone who grows and drys them locally. This sounds like a minor issue until you realize if this tea takes off, I could use somewhere between 5-10 lbs of a particular herb per month- Dry!
Help Me Make My Tea Blend!
Someone suggested using Spice Bush. I have been reading up on it and it sounds like such a cool herb. If I can source it, I’m almost certain it will be in the blend. However, I’m also looking for suggestions. Comment on this post if you have any ideas. Remember they must be grown here in W.PA. I’ll reveal more about the organization and the mission once we solidify all the details.
